Our Story

Building confident communicators around the world

Lumin was created by educators and technologists who believe meaningful conversation should be at the heart of language learning.

What started as a classroom side project for helping exchange students practise English has grown into a global platform trusted by schools, universities, and independent learners in more than 120 countries.

Our interdisciplinary team blends curriculum design, AI research, and behavioural science to build experiences that meet learners where they are. We work closely with partner schools to ensure Lumin augments existing programmes with actionable insights for teachers and engaging practice for students.

Today, we continue to invest in transparent AI, regional partnerships, and inclusive design so that every learner feels seen, supported, and inspired to keep going.

Our values

These principles guide the way we design, build, and support language learning experiences for our community.

Learning first

We co-design every lesson with certified teachers and researchers so our AI amplifies human instruction rather than replacing it.

Accessibility for all

Offline modes, captioned video, and adaptive interfaces ensure learners of every ability can build confidence in their target language.

Evidence-based progress

We combine spaced repetition with CEFR-aligned assessments so students and schools can see measurable impact.

Where we are headed

We are investing in new conversation partners powered by multi-modal AI, expanded support for heritage learners, and deeper analytics for schools to monitor wellbeing as well as attainment.

Join us as we create more pathways for people to connect across cultures, careers, and communities.
